Owner and Creative Director, Exotic Hair Boutique
My Neighborhood: Design District
How did you get started in the hair business? I got my start shortly after leaving Dillard University, at the request of my mentor, who was one of the most sought after hair weaving specialists in Dallas. I was doing hair and nails to earn extra income while studying at Dillard. When I would come home on school breaks, my best friend and I would work in her aunt’s salon, assisting with her clients. When she noticed our skill level, she encouraged us to attend cosmetology school to get our license so that we could work at her salon full time.
What makes Exotic Hair different from other hair businesses? We offer a truly unique customer experience; our clients can buy our exclusive 100% virgin human hair line for extensions and wigs in our retail boutique and we can then service your hair needs in our full service salon.
What services does Exotic Hair provide? Are there any current specials or deals we should know about? We specialize in hair extensions and custom wigs. We offer our exclusive line, The Exotic Hair Collection, a premium line of 100% virgin human hair for extensions and wigs. It consists of Brazilian, Malaysian, Indian, Peruvian and Russian hair. Our hair is sourced from its original country and hand selected to be the best on the market.
We have many lengths, textures and colors. We also have a wig design studio. It’s in our studio where we customize and offer more in depth services such as hair replacement for women losing their hair. You can try some of our stock wigs or we can customize one to fit your specifications.

Since opening the doors to Exotic Hair, share with us one of your biggest successes? One of the biggest successes is when I was given the Milestone Award in Business in 2015 from Equanimity Magazine. I’ve worked so hard in my career for over twenty years and to be recognized by someone is the best.
Your thoughts on the current beauty scene in Dallas/Fort Worth? I am very excited about the current beauty scene. There are a lot of talented stylists here and I feel that Dallas has a lot of opportunities to build a reputation on the national level.
What are your thoughts on the growing natural hair movement? I am so happy that more women are embracing it. We don’t offer a lot of chemical services especially since we treat a lot of hair loss, so it makes total sense for our clients to maintain their natural hair. It gives them the best chance for healthy hair growth.
Your 4 tips for an aspiring hair stylist that is just getting started?
- Education. Along with talent, it is key to starting and maintaining a career in the industry.
- Customer service and professionalism. Going above and beyond for your customers and being professional about your business, because it is a business, will take you far.
- Find a mentor. Someone who is or has been where you want to go in your career. Maybe its someone that you can be assist and learn from them. Also, they can help guide you through your journey.
- Passion. You have to have passion for what you do or else you will not do it for long. If you love what you do, it won’t feel like work and it will show through your style. The hair industry has a lot of ups and downs but your passion will always carry you through.
What can we expect to see from Exotic Hair in 2017? More development in my skills as a wig designer. I’m creating more custom wigs that will give women a better fit and a more natural look. Also, I just launched a new wholesale program for elite stylists in the Dallas area that want to start their own hair business too.
If someone is new to DFW, do you have a favorite restaurant and/or place for fun? I love sushi so I would have to say Oiishi on Wycliff is my favorite and since I really don’t eat meat other than fish, I love Trulucks as well. For fun, I like hanging out with my son at Main Event or Dave n Busters.
