Keara M. Stanley
Owner and Master Stylist, KMS Glam Studio
My Neighborhood: DeSoto, Texas
How did KMS Glam Studio get started?
The idea formed back in 2011, around the time I branched away from being a commission stylist (for five years) to an independent stylist, building my personal brand [with my initials]in a private one-chair suite. The suite life was great for me; I was able to design a relaxing atmosphere for my client’s experience during their services. After four years of working at this level, I realized that although it was nice having a private suite, I missed the camaraderie of an open floor salon. It was then when I knew it was time for me to dream bigger and expand my horizons. In April of 2015, KMS GLAM became KMS GLAM STUDIO, a studio salon in the heart of DeSoto, Texas, “A Woman’s Oasis” servicing real women daily.
What makes KMS Glam different from other hair salons? Currently, everyone is a hairstylist. Meaning, there seems to be a salon on almost every corner in the Dallas Metroplex. You can go practically anywhere and receive a hair service, but at KMS GLAM STUDIO, you get much more. You will receive a flawless look AND exceptional customer service. Our focus is you. We pride ourselves on making every guest feel comfortable and relaxed. Going to a hair salon is your “Me Time” and we want to honor that!
What services does KMS Glam provide? Are there any current specials or deals we should know about? We offer a variety of services from custom hair balayage, hair extensions and precision haircuts. We enjoy the fun “express yourself” looks of today, but ultimately healthy hair is our number one priority. Special offers include our complimentary steam treatment with a shampoo & blow dry on Wednesdays and also our $100 “Glam Queen” sew-in extensions specials for new clients. (Book now)
Since opening the doors to KMS Glam, share with us one of your biggest successes? What have been your biggest challenges? Since opening the salon doors, I realized that I have a true love for helping others grow and see their beauty within. Giving back to the community is one of our biggest successes. Annually, we have been able to give back to less fortunate woman by boosting their self esteem with free services. We also mentor cosmetology students or junior hairstylists through our apprenticeship program. In most salons, the biggest challenge you face is the revolving door of stylists who come and go. Giving back has been a way for us to do good and at the same time, build our team towards success.
Your thoughts on the current beauty scene in Dallas/Fort Worth? Everything about the Dallas current beauty scene is creative innovation. Creativity comes from one’s imagination; it’s inventive and an artistic expression. It’s the mark of individuality, creating diversity of styling design and techniques. Who’s to say what’s right or wrong. As creatives, our passion drives us to be unique and to have our own voice and make our mark in this world.
For the busy professional woman, what advice can you give to her on maintaining healthy, beautiful hair on the go? Proper hair care and hair products play a very important role when it comes to hair maintenance. For hair on the go, I always tell my clients to make sure they sleep with their hair somewhat how they want it to look in the morning. Instead of keeping your hair in the messy ponytail from the gym, take a moment before bed and part your hair the way you want it to fall and either gather hair into a sleek twisted bun or give yourself a couple of loose braids to create a easy wavy look. Use a little texturizing spray and hair wax in the morning to smooth flyaways and you are off to work!
Your 4 tips for an aspiring hair stylist that is just getting started?
1. Find new ways to stay inspired
2. Don’t give up on your dream or vision
3. In a saturated industry, find your niche… your specialty and run with that.
4. Education is key in the hair industry. Choosing the right cosmetology school to fit your needs is essential. Continue educating yourself behind the chair and on the business side of the industry.
Your favorite celebrity hair? I’m really into care free , effortless hair. Jennifer Lopez always has that fresh “out of the shower” tousled hair look. Solange’s free expression hairstyles give me life! And Rihanna can’t do any wrong in my book either. For that sleek polished look… Gabrielle Union and LaLa Anthony serve every time.

If someone is new to DFW, do you have a favorite restaurant and/or place for fun? Dallas has a great number of hidden gems. This list could get lengthy but just to name a few….The Margaret Hunt Bridge and the Trinity Groves area are great places to explore when the weather is nice. Amberjax Fish Market is a scratch kitchen to die for. The Owner’s Box Sports Bar at the Omni Hotel is also a great atmosphere for all the sports fans.
